So it's The Mookie. Everyone loves The Mookie.
I bubbled last week and cashed at the MATH on Monday, so it's safe to say I'm running hot right now. The big thing that I'm doing now that I wasn't before was that I'm being more careful about the hands I'm playing, not just the cards I'm dealt, but who I'm going against and how I'm playing after the flop. Sometimes I continuation-bet if I missed, sometimes I didn't. Sometimes I open-raised from the cutoff, sometimes I limped, others I folded. I was mixing up my game, being mindful of my table image (which, I think, I've ignored.)
Things started off with me getting briefly disconnected right after the cards I dealt. I have no idea why this happens, but for the last month, whenever a blogger tourney starts up, I lose my connection for 2 seconds, then it comes back. Of course, I have to sit through the FTP connection screen for 30 seconds before I can act, so it's a good thing I never get a good hand to start.
Kajagugu took an early lead, being very aggressive, often betting when checked to and re-raising much more than the rest of the table.
I lose 1000 chips on this hand where aggression rules all, and I play top pair more passively than I usually do.

I double her up once when she pushed for 12K (4BB), and I decide that ATC is good to try (having a stack of 180K). Call with 75 offsuit, she shows 92. We don't improve, she doubles.

I double her up once when she pushed for 12K (4BB), and I decide that ATC is good to try (having a stack of 180K). Call with 75 offsuit, she shows 92. We don't improve, she doubles.

So this week, in the 2 blogger tourneys (Mondays at the Hoy and The Mookie), I did better than I have been doing as of late. Of course, I have no idea if that's because I've been making better decisions or because I'm getting luckier, but the fact is that I made the BBT points twice in a row. Get lucky with AQ: TPTK on the flop and turn, then river a straight with a board of Q2345.
After busting some people as the blinds get up there, we have, what I can definitely call the turning point of the tourney for me. I had a chip lead on most of the table at this point. After this hand, I'd be on the level with three other people instead of being the commanding chip leader.

At the Mookie, I got seated at lucko's right, my left. Drats. I knew I couldn't fool around with my usual shit. I knew this at the end of hand 1, where lucko overraises 11xBB, gets called by one person, c-bets and takes down the pot to establish histerritory chip lead.
I get lucky and eliminate pokerenthusiast when an Ace hits on the river to improve my AQ over KK.
I avoid going busto on this hand against lucko. I think I lost the minimum here, which I'm proud of.

After busting some people as the blinds get up there, we have, what I can definitely call the turning point of the tourney for me. I had a chip lead on most of the table at this point. After this hand, I'd be on the level with three other people instead of being the commanding chip leader.

The Mookie
So, after being appropriately schooled by Fuel55 in one of his recent posts, I made it a point to not play weak-tight poker. Tonight's Mookie was the first opportunity to try this out.
The first few levels were nothing out of the ordinary. Some good hands, a few c-bets, the standard.

Not bad, although the combination of unluckiness and not raising with the best hand was a critical moment. I'm learning though.

My last hand, which wasn't caught by hand history because it was the last hand before the table broke up, was my AT vs. katiemother's AJ.
Not bad, although the combination of unluckiness and not raising with the best hand was a critical moment. I'm learning though.
