My Adventures in Microstakes (a.k.a. The Chris Ferguson Challenge) - Part 1

So, because of my poor bankroll management (in case I haven't mentioned it before, blogger tournaments are -EV), I've taken the few dollars that I have left and started going after the microstakes cash tables.

Starting with $4 a couple of weeks ago, I now have $7 thanks to 2 winning sessions.

2 highlights:

The other guy mucked trip 10's.

Later, I flop a boat from the SB. I get paid somewhat, but my river value doesn't (probably because a third club fell.)

Seat 3: monstro_dann ($10)

So now I have $7. That's almost a Mookie or Riverchasers buy-in. Too bad I won't be buying into either of these tournaments until I get at least 10 of those buy-ins. (Technically, I shouldn't have even sat down at the microstakes tables, since the amount on the table is definitely more than 10% of my bankroll, which breaks one of the Chris Ferguson Challenge rules.)

The plan here is to play in either the uber-donk 2,700 player freerolls in the futile hope of getting top 27 to score $2 (or get first for the big $15), or find a SNG or MTT in which the entry is FTP points, which I have plenty of. But, until then, I have $7.

Go me?

Razz Sucks (Part 3)

I guess this is my Presto is Gold-like series.

BBTwo: MATH 10/29/2007

Position: 35/82

Not bad this time. I liked my play this time around, even though in the end, I pushed A9 in the SB against a button raise I figured for a steal, only for it to be AQ. Sometimes, it's not always stealing.

This highly unlikely event happened during the tourney.

And now, some bad news.

My FTP account is seriously lacking in funds.

Like... I won't be playing in any more BBTwo tourneys any time soon. Unless I decide to cash-deposit, which I'm less inclined to do than before, since I have less disposable income than I did the last time I cash-deposited. So, until I use what little I have left at the micro-stakes cash tables, I'm out of BBTwo. That's how it is.

BBTwo Event 2 - MATH 10/22/2007

Position: suck/82

This was the biggest MATH every, I think. I know it's probably because of the huge prizes that are being given out for the BBTwo.

Anyways, I didn't have the time to win a $75 token, and I didn't want to / couldn't buy into Sunday's Big Game directly, so I skipped Event 1 and started my BBTwo on Monday, instead.

Table 1 had some familiar faces, but some new ones.

Right at the start, any time I entered a pot, someone I didn't know would enter with me. My c-bets would be raised or called pretty consistently. I was able to take a few pots pre-flop in levels 2 and 3, but it was rough.

I pretty much forgot how to play against donks, since I've only played bloggers recently (and even then, not so often).

Then I get into a hand like this:

Blinds 20-40. thepokergrind limps UTG, I raise 4xBB with QQ, he calls, everyone else folds.

Flop is 3h5cKh. thepokergrind bets some amount (I don't have the hand history at the moment), I raise to see where I'm at, he re-raises. I currently have 1600 or so, and would have 1000 left behind if I called. I hate this, but I have to fold. Did he limp AA, AK, 55 or 33? I don't see him betting out and re-raising with anything I beat.

I go busto to him on this ridonkulous play.

Blinds are 30-60. He's in the cut-off and min-raises to 120. I have JJ, and I'm completely fed up with all the min-raise bullshit that this table's been doing. So, of course, I think it's a good idea to min-raise myself. It's sort of a "how do YOU like this"-thing. It made sense at the time. Shutup.

jjok in the BB folds, thepokergrind calls.

Flop is 8dTd6d.

I end up getting all in (I bet out, he raises, I push, he calls), and he turns over 7dAc. I'm way ahead. He has 7 outs.

So, of course, he hits 9h. He makes his inside straight.

But now I have an OESD. 7 makes a straight on the board, but me having a J will give me a higher straight, and Q will complete my straight, too.

No, I don't re-suck out on the river. That would be too easy.

So I'm gone.

My parting shot:

Poker? What's that?

So yeah.

Haven't signed on to FTP in a while. Been busy with other things (mostly clearing out my DVR queue. Last Comic Standing has been building up, and Jericho got completely neglected when it returned from its winter hiatus.)

So, for all 8 readers of my blog, that's what I've been doing.

I'll be playing the Daily Double A tonight. No MATH for me tonight, as my bankroll is starting to slip and I want to conserve and make a cash before getting back into $26 tournaments. You know how it is.
