FTP - Blogger Big Game - 4/15/2007

Position: 3/53
Deal: $786 for each of the top 4 players (3rd paid $548.55, so a good deal here!)

I'm excited. A new record cash for me.

Hands of note follow.

-----------------------------

I'm well below the average stack at this point, been playing very tight. My PF raises have taken down the blinds, and that's been the majority of the action I've gotten.

bdidde folds (intended result achieved.)
Uncalled bet of 1,780 returned to crazdgamer
crazdgamer mucks
crazdgamer wins the pot (880)

crazdgamer wins the pot (1,040)

(At this point, blinds are sufficiently high enough to make raising and winning pots a lucritive option (There's a big difference between doing this play at Level 2 than there is doing it at Level 7. Remember that kids.))

----------------------------------------

A suckout for me, but given that I wasn't going all in, and it would only cost me 8 BB's, and if I lost, I'd have 10 BB's left, I took the risk. This had gives me some chips to play with.

----------------------------------------

Not a hand I played, but an example of a sick suck-out (pocket pair vs. non-pair, unsuited cards where the higher-ranked card is the same as the rank of the pocket-pair. You may remember this kind of suckout from my Foxwoods FPC Super-Satellite.)

Right after the call, I wondered if it was the right call, even though I did win. I mean, for all I knew, I could've been up against JJ, QQ, KK or AA. I'm still wondering now if that was the right play.

I now have more than double the next highest-person at the table. There are either 10 or 11 people left, money starts at 6.
-----------------------------------

The rest of the hands are final table hands, and just like the rest of the tourney, I played tight and waited for hands that could be good, as opposed to playing position and re-raising with the big stack. I was more concerned with making the money, and to be honest, I didn't even think of playing my position.

Now that I'm looking at it, I basically donked my way into the money.

So, of course, I'm first out of tonight's MATH. Then again, I went to the gym earlier and was feeling dehydrated, which lead to an "eh, fuck it" mentality when I had 2-pair with a 3-diamond board. Of course, opponent has a flush and I don't fill up on the river.

Eh. So there's my Blogger Big Game. Hope you had fun reading it. Or something.

FTP - $5 + .50 NL Hold'em - 3/31/2007

Position: 5/455
Cash: $153.56

My biggest cash online!

This tournament was weird though. I saw more river suckouts (both for myself and my opponents) than usual. I guess FTP's RNG saw what day it is (in GMT) and decided to be wacky with its river cards. But, somehow, I was able to cash, and although I'm a little disapointed I got to the final table (and had the chip lead for a little bit), I wasn't able to bring it home.

Hand Histories will come later tonight. Busy day today.

*** FLOP *** [4s Qs 5d]
rizsweep bets 40
crazdgamer calls 40 (even though I missed, a min-bet into this pot is not going to chase me out. I was a little concerned about the queen. AQ, AA, KK were possibilities, but this bet doesn't fit that.)
*** TURN *** [4s Qs 5d] [4h]
rizsweep checks

*** RIVER *** [4s Qs 5d 4h] [Js]
rizsweep checks
crazdgamer bets 300 (the board is sufficiently scary. If he has a pocket pair, he can't like his hand right now. Paired board and possible flush. My check on the turn sells me drawing, so I take a stab.)

--------------------------

I don't see myself playing this any other way. I go broke on this hand even if I push after the chip leader's reraise.

With a re-loaded account, I can start donking out of tourneys again. Yay?

Where I've been lately & Reading from the rail.

My online play has been few and far between as of late: A couple of months ago, I attempted a few tournaments with buy-ins outside of my comfort zone. My bankroll wasn't big enough to handle it, so now I have but a few dollars in my account. I've instead taken to watching some other people play instead. I read a couple of poker blogs every day, and if I'm bored after work, I'll see if they're in any tournaments and watch how they play.

During FTP's Tuesday 30K guarantee (6-max NL Hold'em), I was watching 2 tables: one had blogger hoyazo and the second had FTP pro Clonie Gowen. Just after the first break, Clonie is UTG and makes a standard raise with the button calling. The flop is rainbow rags, queen-high. Clonie makes the standard continuation bet, and the button calls. Turn: check check. At this point, I'm thinking "Clonie has AK." She had a hand worthy enough to raise pre-flop UTG with and, after getting her continuation bet called on the flop, had to slow down. River is neither an Ace or a King, it goes check, check. Clonie turns over A9 off-suit and the button mucks.

While I didn't get it exactly right, I was in the right neighborhood. Calling other people's hands like this is a good confidence booster for me, since my bankroll is doing absolutely nothing for my confidence.

Unfortunately, since it was late, I couldn't watch more of the tourney. But hoyazo did end up busting Huckleberry Seed (another FTP pro) from the tournament. Busting a pro gets the person their tournament buy-in back, so congrats to hoy for that.

I think I'm going to try FTP's cash transfer option for getting money back into my account. We'll see how that works.
